Stroh Center Priority Seating Q&A (.pdf)
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics today announced plans to allocate season tickets for the new Stroh Center through a priority points system. The points system will include criteria of lifetime giving to intercollegiate athletics and for years of consecutive loyalty as a season ticket holder to men's and women's basketball.
“The opening of a building like the Stroh Center is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a university,” Greg Christopher, Director of Athletics, said. “It is important to create an objective system for selecting seats in the new facility and that system must incorporate a way to properly reward those who have supported athletics. The purpose is to ensure that those who have supported our programs get their first choice of seats in the Stroh Center.”
Several focus groups of Falcon Club members, season ticket holders and community members convened last spring and, coupled with benchmarking studies across the Mid-American Conference as well as other institutions opening new athletic facilities within the last five years, the point system was created. The point system will be run as follows:
• One point for every $100 lifetime giving to Intercollegiate Athletics (this does not include deferred gifts) as of June 30, 2011.
• Two points for any brick paver purchased for the Stroh Center by June 30, 2011.
• Two points for every consecutive year as a season ticket holder to men's basketball since 1967.
• Two points for every consecutive year as a season ticket holder to women's basketball since 2004 (the year that BGSU started tracking women's season ticket sales).
All points will be tabulated after July 1, 2011 so that the most accurate giving data can be tabulated after the university fiscal year ends on June 30, 2011. Seats for the bowl area will go on sale next summer while club seats will go on sale this winter. To purchase club seats, fans will need to also be members of the Falcon Club at the Orange and Brown level (minimum $500 annually) and a section of seats in the lower section of the bowl across the court from the bench will require basic Falcon Club membership (minimum $100 annually).
“We wanted to take any subjectivity out of the seating process using the data that we have available,” Mary Ellen Gillespie, Associate Athletics Director for External Relations, said. “The result is a clear and objective system. Any fans who want to make sure their information is correct should contact the BGSU ticket office. Ultimately, the data that we have will drive the final points tally.”
The Stroh Center, set to open in September 2011, will be the home to men's and women's basketball and volleyball. The facility will seat 4700 on game day of which approximately 400 seats will be club seats with access to the Anderson Club. The $36 million building was funded with $14 million in private funds and $22 million in debt service. The building will be named for Kermit and the late Mary Lu Stroh, who provided the lead gift of $7.7 million, the largest gift in university history.
