Keri Buff Steps Down as BGSU Swimming Coach
August 13, 2010 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Bowling Green State University head swimming coach Keri Buff has announced her resignation, effective immediately. BGSU Assistant Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Greg Christopher made the announcement Friday (Aug. 13).
“We would like to thank Keri for her eight years of service to BGSU Athletics,” said Christopher. “Keri leaves behind a program that she has impacted in so many ways including our record book, but most notably the lives of our student-athletes. While we are sad to lose a member of the BGSU family, we want to wish Keri the best of luck as she transitions into her new career.”
Buff steps down after eight seasons at the helm. She was named the MAC Coach of the Year in the 2002-03 season. Her 2003-04 squad saw the Falcons post a third-place finish at the MAC Championships, the school's best placing in 11 years.
The Brown and Orange finished fifth in the 2005 league meet and fourth in the '06 MAC Championships, with four All-MAC selections in each of those seasons. In the latter campaign, Jessica Guinness was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second-Team selection, and also was the BGSU Rhodes Scholarship nominee.
In her BGSU tenure, Buff cleared the record board, with all but four school records falling during the eight seasons.
Buff has accepted a position with TYR, a swimwear manufacturing company.
“I have had an incredible experience at BG,” said Buff. “I feel so fortunate to have worked with such an amazing group of women over the past eight years. They have been a part of my family and I will miss them dearly.
“Working with a growing company like TYR was an opportunity that my family and I could not pass up. Through my position with the company I will be able to reach out to athletes and coaches on a national level.”
A graduate of the University of Arizona, Buff swam backstroke for the Wildcats. She became a student assistant coach for U of A (1993-1995), and also had assistant-coaching stints at Wisconsin (1995-99) and Arizona State (1999-2002) prior to coming to BGSU.
