With the win, the Bisons improve to 4-4-0 on the season, while dropping the Falcons to 2-3-2.
After a scoreless first half, Miguel DaSilva got the visitors on the board with only half a minute gone in the second period. Nick Bibb brought the ball into the penalty area unmarked, forcing Falcon goalkeeper Miguel Rosales to choose between Bibb and DaSilva. Bibb was able to slide a pass past the reach of the BGSU junior, and DaSilva redirected the short pass into the vacated net.
The Bisons doubled the lead in the 70th minute, as Garret Pettis scored an insurance goal. A shot by LU's Chase Nieri hit the crossbar and bounded back into the field of play, and Pettis was lurking just a few yards away from goal to knock it home.
Lipscomb had an 18-9 advantage in total shot attempts on the day. LU goalkeeper Brent McGee made one save in his shutout effort, while Rosales had a total of seven stops at the other end of the field.
The visitors had several chances in the early stages of the match, but Rosales kept Lipscomb off the scoreboard. With 12 minutes gone, Andre Chamberlain hit a scorcher from approximately 18 yards out, but Rosales made a diving stop to knock the ball out of bounds for a corner kick.
Seven minutes later, Rosales made another diving save, this time to stop a turnaround shot from Pettis. With 11 minutes remaining before halftime, the Falcon 'keeper robbed Bibb, who hit a one-timer from close range. The teams went to the half locked in a scoreless tie.
In the second half, it took mere seconds for Lipscomb to get on the board, as Bibb slid a short pass to DaSilva for the game's opening goal.
BGSU looked to have a scoring chance with five minutes elapsed in the half, but McGee punched away junior Max Weston's cross.
With 10 minutes gone in the period, Pettis received a pass and took a touch to get the ball past Rosales. Pettis tracked the ball down on the right side of the area and fired a shot that hit the outside of the net.
With just under 21 minutes left, the Bisons took a two-nil advantage. Nieri's long shot hit the crossbar as Rosales backpedaled and made a leaping effort for the ball. The ball caromed to Pettis, who hit it home for the two-goal lead.
Rosales made several more solid saves to keep the score the same. He made a diving stop on Drew Longinotti's half-volley with seven minutes remaining, then made a stop on Juan Pacheco less than a minute later. Rosales' total of seven saves was his second highest of the season (11 vs. Akron).
BGSU returns to Cochrane Field on Friday (Oct. 1), taking on Western Michigan University in Mid-American Conference action. That match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
