Falcons Picked to Finish Fifth in East Division

MAC office releases preseason coaches poll Monday afternoon
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the East Division in the 2011 Mid-American Conference race. The poll, the result of voting by the league's 12 head coaches, was released Monday afternoon (Aug. 15).
Miami was picked to win the East Division regular-season title, while Toledo was tabbed to capture the West Division crown. The 2011 season marks the second year that a divisional format has been utilized for MAC women's soccer.
Miami received nine of the 12 East Division first-place votes, while Toledo received seven such votes in the West.
In the East, Miami received 68 total points in the voting, followed by Akron (56), Kent State (43), Ohio (40), BGSU (31) and Buffalo (14).
Toledo received 65 votes in the West Division polling, followed by Central Michigan (62), Western Michigan (43), Eastern Michigan (41), Northern Illinois (21) and Ball State (20). UT was also selected by the coaches to win the 2011 MAC Tournament by receiving six championship votes. CMU received two votes to win the tourney, while Miami, WMU, EMU and BSU each received one.
The 2011 season begins Friday (Aug. 19) with 10 of the league's 12 teams, including the Falcons, in action. BGSU heads to Illinois for a pair of matches this weekend, taking on Loyola (Ill.) on Friday night and Illinois State on Sunday (Aug. 21).
The conference schedule begins on Sept. 23 and will wrap up just over a month later, on Oct. 27. The MAC Tournament starts Oct. 30 at campus sites and will then move to the home of the highest remaining seed for the semifinals (Nov. 4) and championship (Nov. 6).
