February 14, 2012 | Falcon Club
Beginning in January of 2012, the BGSU Department of Athletics will highlight a Falcon Club member each month. For February, Dermot "Derm" Forde has been selected. Derm is the Director of the Office of Advising Services at BGSU and is a native of Dublin, Ireland.
Name: Dermot “Derm” Forde
Family: Wife Amy (BGSU '89 and '92) and son Aidan (9 years old)
Occupation: Director, Office of Advising Services BGSU
Hometown: Dublin, Ireland
Current Residence: Waterville, Ohio (great little town, love our neighbors on Applegate)
Childhood Ambition: To play professional soccer
Fondest Memory of BGSU Athletics: Being at Michigan State in 2007 when women's hoops beat Vandy to get to the Sweet 16
Favorite Music: Rush (I've seen them 23 times); Iron Maiden
Proudest Moment: Birth of my son in 2003 and becoming a US citizen in 1997
The Perfect Day: Any day where I can watch hockey and EPL (English Premier League) soccer. Go Chelsea!
First Job: Stock room at a clothing store in Dublin
Favorite Movie: Midnight Run. Also love sports movies especially Slapshot, Hoosiers, Invictus.
Inspiration: Lots of things inspire me. I'm definitely a glass “half full” guy.
Biggest Idol: Ron Francis #10 Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes. Classiest athlete on the planet.
Favorite BGSU Athlete ever: Jon Matsumoto (BGSU hockey) Great talent. Should be an NHL regular.
Dream Job: Would love to work for a brewery like Sam Adams or Great Lakes
If you could be friends with anyone in the world, it would be: Meryl Streep. Would love to have coffee with her. Fascinating woman.
If you could pick one place to call home, it would be: I love NW Ohio, great people and family oriented. However, would love a home by the lake or the ocean.
Favorite thing about BGSU: So many things. Some of the nicest people I've met in my life work here. Very blessed to work here and see these folks on a regular basis.
Three items you can't live without: Fox Soccer Channel, NHL Network, good running shoes and Falcon Hockey season tickets. Oops, that four.
Dream Vacation: Would love to visit Australia and New Zealand. Also love trips home to Dublin and some real Guinness at my local pub
Biggest Life Aspiration: To be a good husband and dad.
Favorite Place in Bowling Green: Always enjoy Becketts for some pre-game beer and munchies before BGSU Falcon hockey.
Favorite Professional Team: Carolina Hurricanes and Chelsea (EPL Soccer).
Proudest Accomplishment: Making the move to the United States in 1985.
Recent Impulse Buy: A Ron Francis #10 Hartford Whalers jersey on E-Bay.
Favorite Food: Nothing like a good steak and also love Mexican food.
Something others may not know about me: I've run the New York City Marathon three times.
It is important to be a member of Falcon Club because: As a University employee, I recognize that Athletics brings recognition to the institution and I believe that we have an obligation to support our athletic programs in every way possible. I am thrilled to be on the Falcon Club Board and hope to encourage my fellow employees to be Falcon Club members and support our athletic programs.
