Wiest Earns College Sports Madness Weekly Honors

BGSU senior GK earns MAC Player-of-the-Week accolades from national web site

Wiest, a native of Naperville, Ill. (Naperville North H.S.), had a goals-against average of just 0.42 and a saves percentage of .900 in last week's two games, helping the Falcons to a 1-0-1 record. In Tuesday's (Oct. 22) match at Wright State, Wiest had four saves in the Falcons' 1-0, double-overtime victory. The shutout was the 20th of his career. Then, he had five stops in BG's 1-1, double-OT draw vs. Hartwick on Saturday night (Oct. 26) at Cochrane Field.
Wiest now has a GAA of just 0.74 and a saves percentage of .829 this season. He has seven shutouts this fall, and has a GAA of just 0.46 and a saves pct. of .875 in MAC matches this fall to date. Wiest is the first Falcon 'keeper to post six or more shutouts in three consecutive seasons since BGSU Hall-of-Famer Scott Vallow (1995-98).
The Falcons (5-6-5 overall, 2-1-1 MAC) head to Kalamazoo for a key MAC matchup this weekend. BGSU faces Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2), with first touch set for 1:00 p.m. After a non-conference home game vs. IPFW on Tuesday, Nov. 5, the regular-season schedule comes to a close with a MAC match at West Virginia on Friday night, Nov. 8.
