Chicago-area post player joins BGSU program for 2013-14 academic year

Bolton, a 5-11 post player, was an all-state second-team selection for coach Mary Pat Connolly at Marist H.S. as a senior. She helped the RedHawks to the sectional final in her senior year, where they fell by two points to the eventual IHSA Class 4A state champion. Bolton averaged 15.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as the RedHawks went 24-10 last season. She finished her high-school career with 1,735 points, the second-highest total in Marist history.
"We are excited to add another member to the incoming freshman class," said Roos. "Leah and her family visited recently and there was an immediate connection with everyone on the visit to Bowling Green. She earned numerous accolades and achieved many successes during her career at Marist High School and with her AAU organization, Illinois Xcitement.
"Leah will be able to impact our roster immediately. She has worked very hard throughout her career on the floor and in the classroom and is a very high achieving young person."
As a junior, Bolton averaged 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, helping the RedHawks to a 32-2 record. Bolton also had a total of 70 steals in helping Marist to the IHSA Class 4A sectional title. She was named to the all-state second team by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association that year.
Roos and her staff – assistant coaches Jesse Fleming, Jacey Brooks and Sahar Nusseibeh and director of operations Monique Rosati – welcome back seven letterwinners, including three starters, from last season's 24-win team. Bolton joins three other freshmen – Kennedy Kirkpatrick, Rachel Konieczki and Abby Siefker – on the 2013-14 active roster. Additionally, Erica Donovan, who sat out the 2012-13 season per NCAA regulations after transferring from North Carolina State, is eligible to play for the Falcons in '13-14.
The 2012-13 Falcons advanced to national postseason play for the ninth consecutive year, earning an at-large berth in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Roos and the Falcons won two games before losing to eventual WNIT champion Drexel in the third round.
