Bowling Green, Ohio – The Falcons men's basketball program announced on Wednesday the signing of Delvin Dickerson to a National Letter of Intent to continue both his academic and athletic career at Bowling Green State University come Fall 2014.
Dickerson, a 6-7, 215 pound forward, comes to BGSU from Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas where he led the Dragons to a 26-8 overall record and a 15-4 record in conference play in 2013-14. Dickerson will have two years of eligibility remaining at Bowling Green.
"Delvin Dickerson will have an immediate impact on our basketball program. Delvin brings an ability to score the basketball both at the rim and from beyond the arc along with being a high level athlete," commented Coach Jans. "Delvin was an integral part of a balanced championship team at Paris Junior College playing under respected Coach Chuck Taylor. We couldn't be more excited about Delvin's decision to continue his academic and athletic career at BGSU!"
From Houston, Texas, Dickerson posted 11.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season, while shooting over 47 percent from the field and 39 percent behind the three-point line. In conference play, the sophomore bumped his scoring average up to 12.2 points per game. He helped lead the Dragons to both a regular season conference championship and a Region XIV Tournament Championship with three straight wins over Blinn College, Lamar-State (Pa) and TVCC. Paris qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament losing in the second round.
This past season, Dickerson was named First-Team All-Conference, First-Team All-Region and earned a spot on the Region XIV All-Tournament Team. He was also tabbed the Co-Team MVP.
As a freshman in 2012-13, Dickerson averaged 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest for Paris JC.
Dickerson wrapped up his high school career at Westbury Christian High School in Houston, Texas, where he led his team to a 28-4 overall record, a 9-0 conference record and a ranking as high as No. 12 in the state of Texas and No. 67 in the nation in 2011-12. He poured in a team-high 20 points to lead his team to become the 2012 Bass Pro Tournament Champions. Heading into the season, the Wildcats and head coach Russell Carr were ranked No. 47 in ESPN.com's Preseason POWERADE FAB 50 Rankings.
In his junior season at Westbury Christian, he led them to a 37-2 record and a runner-up finish in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools State Tournament. He averaged 17.8 points and 11.0 rebounds and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 71st annual Houston ISD Boys Basketball Tournament in December 2010. WCHS defeated two-time defending 4A champion Houston Yates in the final behind 25 points and 12 rebounds from Dickerson.
Dickerson, who was ranked in the Top-100 in the Class of 2012, signed with South Alabama before attending Paris JC. Before signing with the Falcons, he was also recruited by Murray State, Southern Mississippi and Tennessee.
