Lebanon, Ohio – Senior Patricia Holt made history over the weekend, as she finished in second-place overall to record the highest ever individual finish by a Bowling Green State University women's golfer at the annual Mid-American Conference Championship Tournament, as the Falcons took seventh-place overall as a team at the 2015 MAC Women's Golf Championship hosted by BGSU at the Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio from April 24-26.
With Holt's runner-up finish, the senior also earned MAC All-Tournament Team honors. Her second-place finish beat the Falcons' previous best finish by just one spot, as Jenny Schnipke took third-place overall in 2004.
"Incredible finish for Patricia Holt, as it just encapsulates her career that she and Shelby Wilson had, but particularly with Patricia on this last day. Consistency on all three rounds, she stayed focused on her goals, and she is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen," commented head coach Stephanie Young. "She has gotten the absolute most out of her talent…she has worked on her weaknesses and she knew what she needed to do to be a better MAC competitor. I couldn't have written up the story any better. I am incredibly proud of her."
As a team, BGSU carded rounds of 328, 306 and 322 to finish in seventh-place overall with a final team score of 956, +92. The Falcons finished ahead of Akron (970, +106), Ball State (986, +122) and Central Michigan (1039, +175).
Holt moved up one spot from third-place overall on championship Sunday, as the senior posted a second straight 75, +3, by way of a birdie on hole No. 13 and 13 pars on the day. Combined with her first round of 77, +5, and her second round 75, +3, the Texas native ended the three-day event with a combined 54-hole score of 227, +11, and in sole possession of second-place overall.
The BGSU senior finished just five strokes behind the winner Josée Doyon of Kent State and her tournament low score of 222, +6.
Also wrapping up her BGSU career with a strong championship finish was fellow senior Shelby Wilson with her 11th-place showing. Wilson carded a final round of 78, +6, which included five birdies and none more fitting than on hole No. 18. The Texas native ended in a five-way tie for 11th-place overall with scores of 80, 77 and 78 for a final 54-hole score of 235, +19.
Both Holt and Wilson finished tied for fourth for the entire tournament field with a par 3 scoring average of 3.08, +1, while Holt finished with a par 5 scoring average of 5.00, even par, to rank seventh overall for the event.
Wilson led the tournament field with nine birdies, while Holt was second overall with 35 pars and ranked fourth in birdies with five.
BGSU's Lily Bartell finished in a tie for 33rd-place overall, while Mikayla Baer ended the tournament in a tie for 38th-place. Bartell, who posted rounds of 83 and 80 over the first two days of play, turned in a final round of 84, +12, to finish with a 54-hole score of 247, +31. Baer sandwiched a BGSU tournament low round 74 between a first and third round of 88 to shoot a 54-hole score of 250, +34.
Rounding out the Falcon lineup was Hannah Lewis, as the junior recorded a round of 85, +13, on Sunday. With her three rounds of 88, 81 and 85, Lewis finished the event with a three-round combined score of 254, +38, and in a tie for 44th-place overall.
No. 35 nationally ranked Kent State won its 17th straight MAC Women's Golf Championship, as the Golden Flashes turned in a team low tournament score of 918, +54.
In second-place on the team leaderboard was Eastern Michigan with a team score of 928, +64, while Toledo finished in third with a score of 939, +75.
The Falcons three-round combined score of 956 was the lowest ever 54-hole team score for BGSU at the MAC Women's Golf Championships, eclipsing the previous mark of 957 set in 2013.
BGSU finished second for the tournament with a 3.28, +17, par 3 scoring average overall, and third in birdies with a total of 19.
"BGSU women's golf in three words is Focus, Fun and Family. They are family, first and foremost. They are focused. They are committed to continuing to compete at a higher level year after year and we have a lot of fun doing it."
