Lemke Wins MAC Women's Swimmer/Diver of the Week for Second Time
January 18, 2018 | Women's Swimming & Diving
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Sophomore diver Talisa Lemke has captured the Mid-American Conference Swimmer/Diver of the Week Award for the second time this season, as announced on Thursday afternoon (Jan. 18) by the conference office. Last weekend, she led the Bowling Green State University diving team to a victory at the 2018 Buffalo Diving Invitational by winning one event and finishing second in another. Lemke and the Falcons competed against three other MAC schools (Buffalo, Ohio, and Toledo) during the three-day meet. The meet included events on the one-meter, three-meter, and platform boards.
Lemke begin the meet with the three-meter competition on Friday, Jan. 12. In the preliminary round, she placed second out of 22 divers with a cumulative score of 291.30. In the final round, she beat that mark by a tenth of a point (291.40) to once again finish second. On Saturday, she starred in the one-meter dive. With a 302.30 in the prelims, she broke her own school record for the fourth time in this season's seven meets. She later tallied a 300.10 in the final to capture the victory by 34.15 points over the second-place diver. Her first- and second-place finishes resulted in a total of 37 points, which was the most for any diver. Her efforts led BGSU to 106 team points. Buffalo finished second, 16 points behind the Falcons.
Lemke's record progression in the one-meter has been astonishing. She initially broke the school record last January in a tri-meet at George Washington with a 293.15 en route to the MAC Freshman Diver of the Year award. She set a new record for the first time this season against Eastern Michigan (298.20), then did it again one week later at Miami (299.09). At Michigan State, she broke the 300-point barrier for yet another new record (300.97) before finally setting the current standard at Buffalo. Lemke also owns BGSU's three-meter record. She initially broke the record as a freshman and has since set new marks twice this season, most recently at Michigan State.
BGSUÂ Swimming and Diving Head coach Matt Ense said, "Talisa has been someone you can always count on when she gets up to compete for the program. She has been one of the most consistent divers I have seen compete on the boards, and she still has a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. Talisa is a great leader at practice and role model for our program and is helping our diving program transition into one of the most competitive diving programs in the conference."
BGSU resumes their season on Saturday, Jan. 27 with a dual meet in Athens, Ohio against Ohio University.
