Spezia, Iversen Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
January 29, 2018 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Track and Field
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Tyler Spezia and track and field student-athlete Elizabeth Iversen.
Male Athlete of the Week
Tyler Spezia, a senior from Clinton Township, Mich., led the Falcons with four points on the weekend by scoring three goals and one assist. Posting multi-point performances both nights, Spezia helped the Falcons to a sweep of Lake Superior State with eight shots on goal and a plus-3 rating on the ice. On Friday night, Spezia scored the Falcons third goal of the second period, in addition to assisting on Brandon Kruse's game-winning goal just five minutes prior. On Saturday night, he earned his second career multi-goal game by notching two of the Falcons three goals on the night, including the game-winner.
Female Athlete of the Week
Elizabeth Iversen, a senior from Martinsville, Ind., posted personal bests in both the weight throw and the shot put at the Findlay Elite Throws meet Saturday. Iversen had the third-best performance in program history in the weight throw, tossing the apparatus 67-feet-9.5. That distance ranks second in the MAC and 15th in the country. Iversen also set a PR in the shot put with a throw of 51-1.75, moving her into fourth in school history in the event. She also ranks second in the conference in the shot put and is among the top 40 nationally.
