Aliyah Gustafson Named MAC Scholar-Athlete Of The Week
February 07, 2018 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt senior track and field thrower Aliyah Gustafson has been named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week. Gustafson, who carries a 4.0 grade point average in Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies (HMSLS), broke the school record in the shot put Saturday.
Gustafson climbed four spots to No. 4 in the country in the shot put Saturday by throwing 57-feet-2 at the Meyo Invitational. That distance is more than 15 inches further than the previous school record and she leads the MAC in the event by almost six feet. Of Gustafson's six throws Saturday, four of them traveled further than 55 feet. Only a dozen shot putters in the country have thrown that far even once all year.
The honor marks this second time in 2018 that Gustafson has been named the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week. She also earned the award Jan. 17 after breaking the school record in the same event that week.
