BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team opened its three-game series at Western Kentucky University with a 17-5 loss on Friday (March 9) afternoon. The Falcons fall to 3-11 on the season with the loss.
"Right now, we are struggling to put the three phases together across an entire game," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We need to have more of a consistent focus in every phase of the game in order to get to where we want to go."
The Hilltoppers broke the game open with 16 runs over the first three frames. Bowling Green outscored Western Kentucky, 4-1, over the final six innings, but the early-inning deficit was too much for the Falcons to overcome.
Bowling Green and Western Kentucky continue the weekend series tomorrow afternoon with a 2 p.m. EST first pitch. The series is scheduled to conclude following Sunday's (March 11) 2 p.m. contest.
GAME NOTES
• Wes Rickenberg pitched 4.0 scoreless innings in relief for the Orange and Brown. The senior allowed just one hit, while striking out four batters.
• Neil Lambert and Randy Righter went 2-for-5 at the plate. Lambert also recorded two doubles, one RBI and one run.
• Ty Suntken went 1-for-3 with a double, run and RBI.
• R.J. Williams finished the day 2-for-2 at the dish.
• Freshmen Evan Brown and Adam Furnas each recorded the first RBI of their careers.
• Derek Drewes and Nick Piazza posted one hit apiece for Bowling Green.
