Ball State Beats BGSU Saturday To Even Series

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated by Ball State University, 9-3, Saturday (April 21) afternoon at Steller Field. The three-game weekend series is now tied at one game apiece. The series rubber match is slated for tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.
"I told our guys after yesterday's win that Ball State was going to be ready to go today, and they were clearly the better team," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "Tomorrow is our most important game of the season. We need to get back to winning series."
Bowling Green drops to 10-24 overall with the loss. The Falcons are 5-7 in Mid-American Conference play. Ball State moves to 18-19 (6-8 MAC) with the victory.
Ball State chased BGSU starter David Stopp from the game after 1.1 innings of work. The Cardinals scored once in the first, and three more times in the second. BSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead following a two-run fourth. The Falcons countered with two runs in the fifth, but Ball State took a commanding 9-2 lead with a three-spot in the seventh. BGSU concluded the game's scoring with a tally in the bottom half of the seventh.
ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES
• Freshman southpaw Ben Beutel struck out four batters over 3.2 innings of relief work. He allowed two hits, and three unearned runs.
• He was followed up by fellow freshman Jeremy Spezia. The right-hander surrendered just one hit over 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball.
• Cam Daugherty had a big day at the plate to lead the Bowling Green offense. Daugherty went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
• Bowling Green also received hits from Dylan Dohanos, Derek Drewes, Neil Lambert and R.J. Williams.
