Statistical Standouts
- With the win, the Bowling Green tennis program will make its first appearance in the MAC Championships since 2014.
- The first win on the day against Western Michigan came when junior Vanesa Pardo and freshman Theresa Wassmann combined for a 6-3 victory over their opponents at No. 3 doubles. After joining up for the first time last weekend, the duo earned their first victory as a team in the 2018 campaign.
- To seal the doubles point for the Falcons, junior Polina Radeva and sophomore Ayumi Sasaki broke a 1-1 stalemate in doubles play with a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. A strong pairing for the Falcons this season, the team now holds a record of 11-7 against their opponents.
- Handedly earning a straight set win of 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, freshman Marta Bettinelli put the Falcons back on top in a back-and-forth match with her eighth victory of the season.
- To tie the match at 3-3, junior Radeva battled back after dropping the opening set 6-7, to rebound with a pair of 6-4 victories against her opponent at No. 2 singles. A native of Varna, Bulgaria now posts a 12-8 record on the season heading into the MAC Championships.
- In a tied match, it all came down to Pardo at No. 4 singles. A native of Puertollano, Spain, Pardo also earned a three set win when she refuted a 4-6 first set loss with a pair of dynamic 6-4 victories in the second and third sets to earn the 4-3 win for the Bowling Green program.
Coach Dalmacio's Take
- "We started off strong on both courts 2 and 3 in doubles, to get the first point. Radeva and Sasaki came back and saved five match points for us, which was huge! In singles, we kept fighting to get a couple more points with Pardo clinching the match despite injury. Today showed how much fight they all have in themselves. We are excited to represent BGSU in the Championships next weekend!"
