Lambert, East Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
April 09, 2018 | Baseball, General, Gymnastics
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Neil Lambert and gymnast Jovannah East.
Male Athlete of the Week
Neil Lambert, a junior from Pontiac, Ill., hit .363 (4-for-11) in Bowling Green's three-game weekend series at Miami University. Lambert finished the week with consecutive games recording at least one hit and one RBI. In Saturday's (April 7) contest, the shortstop went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run. On Sunday, Lambert went 3-for-4 two two runs and two RBI. He also hit the first triple of his Falcon career. For the season, the junior is hitting .270 with 12 RBI and 18 runs scored. He's played and started in all 30 games in 2018.
Female Athlete of the Week
Jovannah East, a sophomore from Zion, Ill., became the second gymnast in BGSU history to qualify for the NCAA Women's Gymnastics National Championships when she scored a 39.250 in the all-around competition at the Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio. East placed herself alongside Marny Oestreng, who qualified for the 1999 national meet in the floor exercise and ultimately won the national championship in that event. In Columbus, East rotated with No. 3 UCLA and began the meet with the floor exercise, where she scored a 9.850 and ultimately tied for 11th place. She then moved to the vault and added a 9.825 to her total. In her final two events, she tallied a 9.725 on the uneven bars and a 9.850 on the balance beam. The latter score earned a tie for eighth place. East's composite 39.250 tied for fourth place in the all-around with Sandra Collantes of Boise State, and she won a tiebreaker against Collatnes to earn the spot at nationals.
