May 11, 2018 | Women's Tennis
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three from the Bowling Green tennis program have been named to Academic All-MAC honors for their efforts both on and off the courts in the 2017-18 season, including junior Polina Radeva and sophomores Ayumi Sasaki and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash.
Three of just 27 individuals to earn the honor this season, it is Radeva's second Academic All-MAC accolade, while it is a first in the careers of Sasaki and Tavpash.
A native of Varna, Bulgaria, Radeva has earned a 3.76 cumulative GPA while majoring in psychology. The junior was named to First Team All-MAC honors for the first time in her career, and earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week accolades with partner Sasaki on Jan. 24. On the season, Radeva earned a 12-9 singles record in addition to a 12-8 mark in doubles action with Sasaki.
With a 4.00 GPA in individualized business, Sasaki is the lone player on the 2018 Women's Tennis Academic All-MAC Team to post a perfect GPA in the conference. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the sophomore also earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week with partner Radeva on Jan. 24, in addition to earning the match-deciding point twice at home this season in singles wins against Xavier (Jan. 21) and Ball State (March 25).
With a 14-6 overall record in doubles play with partner Paula Comella, sophomore Tavpash was named to the Academic All-MAC team with a 3.909 GPA in business management. On the season, Tavpash was named MAC Doubles Team of the Week with Comella on Feb. 28, and tallied a 12-7 record in singles play while playing the majority of the season at No. 3.
Nominees must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average and compete in at least 50 percent of the season's competitions to be eligible for the Academic All-MAC team. First year students and transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
