Cross Country Squads Hold 2007 Banquet
Dec. 3, 2007
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country program held the teams' 2007 banquet Saturday (Dec. 1). Head coach Cami Wells and her staff recognized the '07 letterwinners and handed out various individual awards for the recently-completed season. Sophomore Eddie Kipchoge was named the Most Valuable Runner for the men's program, while freshmen Ashley Fischer and Barbara Powers shared the honor for the women's team. Lyndi Woods was named the Most Improved Runner, while Chris Moody was selected as the Most Valuable Freshman for the men's program. Not surprisingly, Fischer and Powers shared that award for the women's team.
Each team's seniors were recognized at the banquet, including Curtis Farnsel, Kevin Kaighin and Brad Wells for the men and Caroline Hillman, Stephanie Hillman and Woods for the women. Farnsel and Wells also received captains' awards on the men's side, while Stephanie Hillman, junior Kylie Korsnack and senior Jamie Roflow were so honored for the Falcon women. Roflow, who missed the season due to injury, maintains one season of cross-country eligibility and will return in 2008.
The event also featured a special presentation of appreciation for Sid Sink, who achieved success at BGSU as an athlete, a coach and an administrator. Sink, a 10-time All-American and one of the top runners in BGSU history, also was a highly successful coach for the Falcons. He is retiring this month after serving as BGSU's Assistant AD for Compliance and Certification. The 2007 men's cross country team finished eighth at the Mid-American Conference meet, with Kipchoge earning all-league honors, while the BG women placed seventh. The women were 21st at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, where Kipchoge competed as an individual on the men's side.
