Baseball's Kevin Light Signs Free Agent Contract With The Washington Nationals

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Bowling Green State University junior left-hander Kevin Light will forego his senior season at BGSU in 2009 to pursue a professional career with the Washington Nationals' organization, whom he signed a free agent contract with on Monday. The Mechanicsville, Va. native will immediately report to the Nationals' Single-A New York-Penn League affiliate the Vermont Lake Monsters, where he was placed on the active roster on Tuesday (June 24).

Light, who transfered to BG following two seasons at Longwood University in Virginia, appeared in 13 games this past season for the Falcons as he finished the 2008 campaign with a 4-4 record and 5.48 ERA. The regular Saturday starter for the Falcons made a team-high 12 starts on the mound, tossing a total of 64 innings. He finished third on the team with 36 strikeouts and held a 3-2 record and 5.44 ERA in Mid-American Conference play.
