Achter Named All-America Honorable Mention
April 5, 2008
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior guard Kate Achter joins thirty Division I women's basketball players on the State Farm All-America Honorable Mention list as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). An additional ten players were given First Team accolades. Achter is the second player in as many years from the BG women's basketball program to earn a spot on the All-American Honorable Mention list; last season Ali Mann was also given the distinction. Joining Achter in 2008 is fellow Mid-American Conference guard, Amanda Jackson. The Oregon, Ohio native owns several BGSU career and single season records and will graduate with the most wins any male or female Mid-American Conference basketball player has collected in a four year career - the 108 win record is accompanied by just 23 wins and four postseason appearances.
In 2007-08, the senior tri-captain helped lead a team of 10 sophomores and freshmen to the program's fourth consecutive MAC regular season championship before bowing out of the MAC Tournament in the semifinal round. The Falcons are the only team in MAC women's basketball history to win four straight regular season titles. In four successful years with BGSU, Achter, the reigning MAC Player of the Year, has littered her basketball resume with numerous in and postseason tournament accolades as well as six Player of the Week nods. This year's team marks the first State Farm Coaches' All-America Team, as Eastman Kodak held the previous sponsorship for 33 years. Selection committees in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions select the top ten women's basketball players in the nation to be honored.
