Swimming and Diving Has Strong Showing in Loss at Buffalo

BUFFALO, New York - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving Falcons finished the duel meet season with four first place finishes, including a relay win as they fell to the University of Buffalo, 164-127.

A pair of freshman led BGSU as Liz Harper picked up her first solo win of the year in the 200 fly and Sarah Burston got win number two this year with a victory in 200 IM. Burston also swam to two additional top three times, claiming second in the 1000 Free and third in the 100 Fly.

Veteran Alisha Yee continued to be productive as she won the 100 back in a time of 58:27. Fellow junior Sami Jordan finished third in the same event.

A group of seniors left their mark on the meet as three swimmers and diver, Jill Auer scored with top three finishes in their events. Captain Kim Albin led the way with two runner-up spots, in the 200 IM and 200 Fly, respectively. She also added a third place honor in the 200 Breaststroke. In addition, Christina Vaca finished second in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, respectively . Finally, Captain Michael Carriaga swam to third in the 200 IM, giving the Falcons a clean sweep of the top three in that event.

Auer, the Falcons lone diver garnered a second and third place score in the diving events. She took third in the 1 M with 215.40 score. She then scored a 273.25, placing her second in the 3 M competition.

The Orange and Brown showed a strong performance in the relays as well, taking the top two spots in the 200 Free Relay. The foursome of Jordan, Jen Wright, Carrie Enright and Frankie Houck won the event in 1:40.06. Finishing in second right behind them was the team of Lisa Hipp, Brit O'Connor, Harper, and Burston. In the other relay, the 200 IM, BGSU swam to a second and third place finish.
 

 

With the regular season now complete, the Falcons will now have two and half weeks to rest and prepare for the Mid-American Conference Championships. This meet is scheduled for February 20-23 at the University of Buffalo.
