Falcons Tied For Fourth Following Day One of MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference Track & Field Championships kicked off on Thursday, with the Bowling Green State University track & field team capturing 11 points on day one, en route to a tie for fourth place in the 12 team event.

Akron scored 58 points on day one to lead the event. Ohio is in second with 22 points and are followed by Buffalo (20), Kent State (11), BGSU (11), Eastern Michigan (9), Central Michigan (8), Western Michigan (5), Ball State (5), Miami (4), Toledo (3) and Northern Illinois (0).

BGSU, who is hosting the MAC Championships inside the newly constructed Whittaker Track, scored nine of their 11 points on the first event of the day, the hammer throw. Leading the way was junior Whitney Hartman, who had a season-best mark of 191-07 to finish second and score eight points for the Falcons. Her previous-best throw was 183-02 at the All-Ohio Championships earlier this season.

Senior Lauren Bryant also chipped in on the hammer throw, finishing eighth in the event with a toss of 166-00, scoring one point for the Orange and Brown.

In the final women's event for the night, Kara Butler scored two points in the 10,000-meter race, finishing seventh with a time of 37:01.36, her best time of the season.

Other Falcon competitors who competed but did not place include Kylie Korsnack (finished 11th in the javelin, 117-01), Paige Lane (17th in javelin, 94-11), Megan Kelsey (18th in 10K, 39:34.81), Stacey Turak (19th in hammer throw, 136-10) and Sabrina Forstein (10th in pole vault, 11-05.75).

Friday's action will begin at 9:00 inside Whittaker Track.
