Howard Filiere was an outstanding coach at Cleveland Lincoln High School for 27 years after being one of the Orange and Brown standout athletes of the 1926-1929 era. His president cage teams won three city championships and tied for another. His first Lincoln baseball team won the 1946 state baseball championship and his 1945 football team won the 1945 West Senate league championship. At BG he won 10 letters in three sports and won the Brown Award (most valuable player) in baseball in 1928 and basketball in 1929. As a defensive lineman at BG, Filiere was awarded with All-NW Ohio Conference honors in 1928.
Filiere signed with the Detroit Tigers after completing his senior year at BG in 1929.
Howard Filiere was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969.
