BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team trailed with under three minutes to play, but held strong in a 62-59 victory over Eastern Michigan University on Tuesday (Jan. 21) night at the Stroh Center. The Falcons have now won five-straight games.
Bowling Green, following the win, moves to 14-5 on the campaign. The Falcons are tied atop the Mid-American Conference standings with Akron. Both BGSU and UA are 5-1 in league play. Ball State is 4-1, while every other team in the conference has multiple losses. Former Falcon and Sacramento Kings forward Richaun Holmes was in the building for Richaun Holmes Night.
With just 2:59 left in regulation, Eastern Michigan held a 55-54 lead. On Bowling Green's ensuing possession, redshirt-junior guard Justin Turner drilled a floater with 2:40 to play, giving the Falcons a 56-55 lead.
Junior Daeqwon Plowden then hit a jumper with 1:27 left on the clock, but a pair of EMU free throws with 1:11 to play in the ballgame pulled with Eagles within a single point at 58-57.
Turner then scored four-straight points, hitting a tough layup with 44 seconds to go. After a steal from senior guard Dylan Frye, Turner cashed in on two free throws with 18 seconds left in the second half, inching the BGSU lead up to 62-57. EMU made a dunk as time expired to conclude the game's scoring.
Turner led the Falcons with 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting. The native of Detroit had seven rebounds, as well. Plowden finished with 17 points and nine rebounds for the Orange and Brown.

• For the first time ever, Bowling Green has picked up at least five MAC wins in its first six games in back-to-back seasons. The Falcons began the 2018-19 MAC slate with a perfect 6-0 record.
• Since 2018, the Stroh Center has been the toughest venue in the MAC for opposing teams. Over that time frame, Bowling Green has posted a record of 23-3, which equates to a league-best .885 winning percentage.
• For the eighth time in school history, BGSU has won at least five of its first six MAC games (2019-20; 2018-19; 1999-2000; 1993-94; 1982-83; 1979-80; 1967-68; 1961-62).
• Bowling Green has won 14 of its first 19 games in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1946. The Falcons have started a season 14-5 (or better) a total of 17 times.
• Over its last 24 conference games, the Falcons have racked up a record of 17-7.
• The Falcons are 12-1 versus the MAC West since 2019. Bowling Green has won seven-straight games against MAC West competition.

• Redshirt-junior guard Justin Turner scored 20-plus points for the 32nd time in his BGSU career. Turner poured in 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Turner went 3-for-6 from downtown. Turner posted seven rebounds, as well.
• Turner's 25-point night is tied for the 11th-best scoring night in his career.
• On the night, Turner moved past A'uston Calhoun (2009-13 | 1,337) on BGSU's all-time scoring list. The native of Detroit now ranks 19th all-time, having scored 1,353 points in 82 games.
• Junior forward Daeqwon Plowden fell one rebound shy of his seventh double-double of the season, as he finished with 17 points (7-of-15 FG) and nine rebounds.
• This season, in 19 games, Plowden has registered 257 points, 150 rebounds, and 17 assists. He's made 97 field goals (48.7 percent), including 23 triples (36.5 percent). Plowden is 40-of-42 (95.2 percent) from the free throw line. Last season, in 34 games, Plowden had 234 points, 163 rebounds and 15 assists. He made 91 field goals (46.2 percent) and 22 triples (37.9 percent). Last season, Plowden went 30-of-55 (54.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
• Entering the season, Plowden had 15 career games with 10-plus points. The native of Philadelphia, in 2019-20, has scored in double figures 14 times.

• Senior guard Dylan Frye drilled two three-pointers, and has now made multiple triples in the same game a total of 65 times. Frye has made 223 three-pointers as a Falcon, and is now just six makes shy of breaking John Reimold's (2002-05 | 228) BGSU record. Frye finished the ballgame with six points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
• Sophomore guard Caleb Fields went 2-for-5 from three-point range to finish with six points. Fields also notched two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
• Sophomore center Tayler Mattos (5 points / 5 rebounds) and junior forward Trey Diggs (3 points) also entered the scoring column for the Falcons. Marlon Sierra contributed with five rebounds. Mattos tied a career high with three blocks.
• Senior guard Michael Laster finished the contest with four assists and one turnover. Over Bowling Green's five-game win streak, Laster has combined for 22 assists and five turnovers.
