Falcons Flying South For Fort Myers Tip-Off
November 22, 2021 | Men's Basketball
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will head south to compete in Fort Myers, Fla. as part of the Fort Myers Tip-Off this week. The Falcons will first face Milwaukee on Tuesday (Nov. 23) with a 2:30 p.m. scheduled start before going up against either Southern Utah or Yale on Wednesday (Nov. 24). Fans can tune in to the action via radio on WFRO Eagle 99. A live stats link will be available at bgsufalcons.com with live updates available on Twitter (@BGSUMHoops).Â
The Falcons and Panthers will square off for just the fourth time in the program's history and for the first time at a neutral site. The first meeting between Bowling Green and Milwaukee was back in 1975, seeing the Falcons capture a 33-point victory. It wasn't until 2009 that the two teams faced again, seeing an overtime contest that went to the Panthers. The most recent game happened just a year later in 2010 with the Falcons making their first trip north to Milwaukee. That game saw the Panthers edge out a slim three-point win.Â
A Bowling Green Win Would …Â
Mulling Over MilwaukeeÂ
Milwaukee will enter the contest against Bowling Green with a 1-2 standing in the young 2021-22 season. The Panthers opened up with a win over North Dakota but have since come up short against both Eastern Kentucky and No. 24 Florida. Statistically, the team has been paced by freshman Patrick Baldwin Jr., the son of head coach Patrick Baldwin Sr., averaging 17.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Gordon Stepping UpÂ
The Falcons have been without guard Kaden Metheny the past three games and Myron Gordon has stepped up in his absence. Against Norfolk State, Gordon not only logged the most minutes for Bowling Green (32), but also paced the team in points (19) and assists (4) while tying for the team-lead in steals (2). Over the three games that Gordon has started, he's averaging 11.3 points, 3.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.Â
Nearing A Record-Breaking DaeÂ
In addition to being in the record book for career points, rebounds and blocks, Daeqwon Plowden is drawing closer to breaking an all-time program record. Now in his fifth season with the Falcons, Plowden has played in 127 career games for the Orange and Brown. He needs just three more games played to break Demajeo Wiggins (2015-19) record, currently set at 129 games played.Â

A Bowling Green Win Would …Â
- Even the series all-time against Milwaukee (2-2)
- Be the first against the Panthers since 1975
- Mark the first neutral site win for the Falcons since topping Cincinnati in overtime (91-84) at the Paradise Jam (11/24/2019)
- Go down as the Falcons' first win on the road this season
