April 13, 2021 | Volleyball
LEXINGTON, Ky.- Bowling Green State University Volleyball Coach Danijela Tomic was named the 2020-21 Northeast Region Coach of the Year, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Tuesday. She shared the honor with Wright State's Allie Matters.
Â
For Tomic, the recognition comes in the midst of a historic season that has witnessed the Falcons go 22 -1, winning both the MAC Regular Season Championship and the MAC Tournament Championship. Over the course of the season, the Falcons went on an 18-match win streak marking the longest streak in both BGSU athletic department history to start a season and the longest consecutive win streak in program history. The MAC Regular Season title was a third in four seasons for the Falcons while the tournament championship was the first since 2012 and the second of Tomic's tenure with the Falcons.Â
Â
Tomic and the Falcons will return to the court on Wednesday (April 14) as they face Weber State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The match will mark the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the Falcons since 2012 and is set to air on ESPN3 at 7 p.m. The full preview story and game notes for the match can be found here.Â
