May 10, 2022 | Softball
Yeah, that's right. For the SEVENTH time.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Communications) – Bowling Green State University softball standout Payton Gottshall has earned Mid-American Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honors yet again. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday afternoon (May 10).
Gottshall earns the honor for the seventh time this season and the 11th time in her spectacular BGSU career.
Gottshall, a native of Massillon, Ohio (Perry H.S.), had an ERA of 0.91 and allowed opponents to bat just .105 against her last week. Gottshall had two wins and a save, and gave up just eight hits in 23 innings of work.
She threw all 14 innings of a doubleheader sweep of Central Michigan on Wednesday (May 4), allowing just an unearned run and three combined hits in those 14 innings. Gottshall threw a two-hitter in the opener, then fired a one-hit shutout in the nightcap.
At Kent State on Saturday (May 7), Gottshall suffered a loss despite allowing just two earned runs and four hits in another complete-game effort. She bounced back to earn a save in the second game of that day's DH, pitching three innings and giving up just one hit.
On the year, Gottshall is now 23-10 with a 1.32 ERA and a .154 OBA. She has a school-record 325 strikeouts in 212 1/3 innings. In MAC games, the stellar sophomore from Stark County went 15-6 with a 1.15 ERA and 196 strikeouts in 140 innings.
BGSU is 30-17 overall, and the Falcons finished MAC play with a 16-11 record, good for fourth place in the 11-team league.
The Falcons have qualified for the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2013, and fourth-seeded BGSU heads to Oxford for the three-day, double-elimination tourney. BG's opening game is on Thursday afternoon (May 12) against top-seeded Miami at 3:30 p.m. The game will be streamed via ESPN+.
