CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference (MAC) and City of Akron have announced that the MAC Softball Championship will return to Firestone Stadium in 2024 and 2025. The MAC Softball Championship and City of Akron have renewed a longtime partnership as the tournament was previously held at Firestone Stadium from 2002-05 and 2008-19.
Â
The 2024 MAC Softball Championship is set to take place on May 6-11, 2024, with the 2025 MAC Championship scheduled for May 5-10, 2025.
Â
"Firestone Stadium will provide an excellent setting for our student-athletes to compete for the Mid-American Conference Tournament title," said MAC Commissioner Jon A. Steinbrecher. "I appreciate the investment and upgrades that the City of Akron has made to Firestone and eagerly anticipate our return to this historic venue."
Â
"The City of Akron and Akron Recreation and Parks are excited to once again host the MAC Softball Championship at Firestone Stadium," said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. "Firestone Stadium has such a rich history in this community that dates back nearly 100 years and our recent investment means that we can continue to provide outstanding accommodations to our area's athletes for many more years to come."
Â
Firestone Stadium, which has a capacity of 4,756, was dedicated on July 25, 1925, by Harvey S. Firestone, the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. It was owned and operated by the Firestone company until it was donated to the City of Akron in 1988.
Â
This past June, the venue received a $1.47 million renovation that upgraded restrooms, concessions, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, LED lightning and a perimeter fence in addition to the installation of two new turf fields.Â
