Bowling Green, Ohio - As part of the year-long celebration of the final year of Anderson Arena, the Bowling Green State University Athletics Department honored the All-Anderson volleyball team Saturday night for "Closing The Doors Of The House That Roars."
Thirteen of the 14 greatest volleyball players of the Anderson Arena era were present for the ceremony, which took place during Homecoming following the Falcon volleyball team's match against Western Michigan.
The 14 BGSU volleyball players selected to the All-Anderson Team represent 20 First Team All-MAC selections, 13 First Team Academic All-MAC Selections, four MAC Player of the Year awards, and four selections to the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
BGSU announced a gift of $8 million from Kermit F. and Mary Lu Stroh on March 1, 2008, with $7.7 million earmarked for the Stroh Center, a new convocation center on campus. Bowling Green broke ground on the new arena on Sept. 3, 2009 and the facility will open in time for the 2011-12 athletic season. The volleyball, men's and women's basketball, and gymnastics programs will all use the Stroh Center as their new home.

Holli (Costein) Dostall – Costein played for BGSU from 1989-92, leading the program to unprecedented success with three Mid-American Conference Championships (1989, 1991, and 1992), a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1991 and selection to the National Invitational Volleyball Championships in 1992. Her teams went a combined 105-31 and the 1989 team recorded the only unbeaten MAC season in program history. In 1992, Costein posted 564 kills, the second most in program history and her 1,243 career kills are 10th all-time. She was a service machine, racking up 148 career aces, the third most in school history, posting two seasons with at least 50. She also ranks fourth in school history with 1,344 career digs and was All-MAC First Team in 1992. She was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team in 1991 and 1992 and was First Team Academic All-MAC those same seasons and honorable mention Academic All-MAC in 1990.
Carey (Amos) Fisher – Amos played for BGSU from 1989-92, leading the program to unprecedented success with three Mid-American Conference Championships (1989, 1991, and 1992), a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1991 and selection to the National Invitational Volleyball Championships in 1992. Her teams went a combined 105-31 and the 1989 team recorded the only unbeaten MAC season in program history. Amos holds the school record with an .867 attack percentage in a match against Texas-Arlington on Dec. 5, 1992 and she also set the program record with 1,588 assists during the 1992 season. Her 3,779 career assists are second in school history and her 125 aces are eighth. Amos was named First Team All-MAC in 1992 and Second Team All-MAC in 1991. She was named to both the MAC All-Tournament Team and the NIVC All-Tournament Team during the 1992 season.
Caty (Rommeck) Gittner – Rommeck played for BGSU from 1999-01, helping the team to MAC East Division Championships in 2000 and 2001. Her teams went a combined 63-29 and her 182 blocks in 2000 are tied for the second most in a single season in program history. Her 413 career blocks are eighth most in school history and her 514 kills in 2001 are the sixth most in a season at BGSU. Rommeck was named First Team All-MAC in both 2000 and 2001 and was named a MAC Player of the Week a school-record eight times. She was also named First Team All-Mideast Region in 2001.
Kendra Halm – Halm played for BGSU from 2005-08 and posted a 90-39 career record for the Falcons. She shares the program record with 14 blocks in a match against Florida A&M on Aug. 30, 2008, while her 515 career blocks are the third most in school history and her 1,299 career kills are fifth. Halm is one of only two players in program history to be named First Team All-MAC three times, earning the award in 2006, 2007, and 2008. She was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team in 2005 and was First Team Academic All-MAC in 2006 and 2008.
Lisa (Mika) Huston – Mika played for BGSU from 1988-91 and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. She led the team to two MAC Championships (1989 and 1991) and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1991. Her teams went 91-35 during her career and the 1989 team is the only one in program history to finish with an unbeaten MAC record. She holds the program records with 569 career blocks and 206 blocks in a season (1990). Mika is also second with 156 career aces, third with 1,461 career kills, and ninth with 1,131 career digs. She served up a program record 10 aces in a win over Sheridan on Nov. 19, 1988 and her 499 kills in 1991 rank as the seventh most in a single season in school history. She was a First Team All-MAC selection in both 1989 and 1991, a second teamer in 1990, and received honorable mention recognition as a freshman in 1988. Huston was also named Second Team All-Mideast Region in 1991 and third team in 1990.
Debbie (Hopkins) Lewis – Hopkins played for BGSU from 1982-85 and was a critical component of each of those teams. She was a versatile player and a 1985 team captain who led the squad in aces (46), digs (337), and hitting percentage (.287). She earned four varsity letters at BGSU and, at the time of her graduation, she held eight school records and finished her career with 783 kills, 131 aces, and 971 digs. As a junior, Hopkins led the Falcons in kills, digs and service aces. She was an honorable mention All-MAC performer in both 1984 and 1985.
Chelsey Meek – Meek played at BGSU from 2005-08 and helped the Falcons to a 90-39 record during her time. One of the greatest diggers in NCAA history, she holds the NCAA record by posting 10 or more digs in 91 consecutive matches. Her 2,298 career digs are the 20th most in NCAA history and the most in MAC history. She holds the top three single season dig totals in school history and her 663 digs in 2008 rank among the NCAA record holders in the 25-point scoring format era. Meek also holds the school record with 38 digs in a match against Eastern Michigan on Oct. 13, 2007. She was named Second Team All-MAC in 2008 and First Team Academic All-MAC in both 2007 and 2008. Meek was a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-District performer in 2008 as well.
Linda (Popovich) Nicastro – Popovich played at BGSU from 1986-89 and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995. She had a career record of 86-37 and helped the team to the 1989 MAC Championship as the team recorded the only unbeaten MAC season in program history. She holds the program records with 4,406 career assists and 190 career aces and is one of only 23 players in NCAA history to play every set of her career (minimum of 430 career sets). Her 55 aces in 1986 are the second most in school history as well. Popovich also ranks fifth in school history with 1,247 career digs and was named MAC Player of the Year in 1989. She was First Team All-MAC that year and was named Second Team All-MAC in 1987 and 1988 as well as honorable mention in 1986, when she was also named the MAC Freshman of the Year. Popovich was a Second Team All-Mideast Region performer in 1989 and was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team that season. She was a participant in the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1987 and was also a strong performer in the classroom. Popovich was named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America in 1988 and 1989 and was First Team Academic All-MAC both seasons as well.
Tammy Schiller-Justice – Schiller played for BGSU from 1988-91 and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999. She led the team to two MAC Championships (1989 and 1991) and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1991. Her teams went a combined 91-35 in her career and the 1989 team recorded the only beaten MAC season in program history. Schiller holds the school records with 1,709 career kills and a .344 career hitting percentage. Her 140 career aces and 486 career blocks both rank fourth and her 1,142 career digs are seventh. She set program records in 1991 with 591 kills and a .393 attack percentage and she is the only player in program history to be named MAC Player of the Year twice, earning the award in both 1990 and 1991. She is also one of only two players at BGSU to be named First Team All-MAC three times, being named to the squad in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Schiller was a First Team All-Mideast Region selection in 1990 and 1991 and second team in 1989. She was the MAC Tournament MVP in 1991 and a MAC All-Tournament Team pick in 1990. She participated in the U.S. Olympic Festival in both 1990 and 1991 and was First Team Academic All-MAC in 1990.
Carlyn (Esslinger) Smith – Esslinger played for BGSU from 1992-95 and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. She helped the team to a MAC Championship in 1992 and two trips to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (1992 and 1993). Her teams went a combined 80-44 during her time at BGSU. Esslinger shares the program record with 14 blocks in a match against Kent State on Oct. 27, 1995 and her 1,462 career kills are the second most in program history, while her 531 kills in 1995 rank as the third most in a season. Esslinger was named MAC Player of the Year in 1995 and was First Team All-MAC in both 1994 and 1995 after being named honorable mention in 1993. She was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team in 1993 and was Second Team Academic All-MAC that season. Her 69 attack attempts in a three-set match against Central Michigan on Oct. 7, 1994 still ranks among the NCAA record holders.
Stephanie Swiger – Swiger played at BGSU from 2004-07 and led the program to an 82-44 mark during that time. She ranks seventh in program history with 422 career blocks. Swiger was named First Team All-MAC in both 2006 and 2007 and was a First Team Academic All-MAC player in each of those years as well. She was also selected to receive the Bob James Memorial Scholarship, given to one male and one female student-athlete in the Mid-American Conference based on character, leadership and citizenship. She was also named the 2008 Outstanding Senior at Bowling Green State University.
Chrissy Gothke – Gothke played at BGSU from 2003-06 and ranks third in school history with 1,465 career digs and sixth with 2,726 career assists. Her 1,328 assists in 2006 is the third highest total in a single season in Falcon history and her 497 digs in 2003 is the fourth highest total. Gothke was named First Team All-MAC in 2006 and honorable mention All-Mideast Region the same year. Along with those awards, she was named MAC All-Tournament Team and First Team Academic All-MAC as a senior in 2006.
Wendy (Watkins) Teaman – Watkins played at BGSU from 1994-97 and her 2,619 career assists rank eighth in program history. She also posted 98 career aces, the 10th most at BGSU. As a senior, she led the team in assists (1,275), attack percentage (.308), and digs (388). Over the course of her final two seasons, Watkins was impossible to get off the floor, playing in all 236 sets. She was an honorable mention All-MAC player in 1997 and First Team Academic All-MAC in 1997.
Jo Lynn (Williamson) Williams – Williamson played at BGSU from 1984-87 and led the team to a 76-44 record in her time with the Falcons, including a mark of 50-14 in her final two seasons. She holds the school record with 35 kills in a match against Central Michigan on Nov. 27, 1987 and she ranks sixth in school history with 1,286 career kills. Her 131 career aces are seventh and her 1,124 career digs are 10th. Williamson also recorded 479 kills in 1986, the eighth most in program history. She was a First Team All-MAC player in both 1986 and 1987.
