Athletics Department Holds Annual Honors Night

Bowling Green, Ohio - Former BGSU track and field star Shirelle Jackson received the Distinguished Alumna Award and was the keynote speaker Saturday evening as the Bowling Green Athletics Department held its annual Athletics Honors Night, recognizing the academic and athletic accomplishments of its 425 student-athletes.
In front of a crowd of approximately 400 people, awards were given out and student-athletes were recognized for their work in the classroom and in competition. 213 student-athletes hold a grade point average of at least 3.0 and 26 have a perfect 4.0.
Swimmer Meg Richardson and men's soccer player Jacob Lawrence received the Falcon Medal of Honor Awards, the highest award given to two student-athletes that encompass all that a BGSU student-athlete should be.
Gymnast Megan Chronister and men's basketball player Marc Larson were awarded the Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, while tennis player Christine Chiricosta and men's soccer player Garrett Bireline received the Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards.
Van and Tracey Wright were named the recipients of the 2009-10 Distinguished Service Award, while team awards were handed out for highest grade point average and most improved. The women's basketball team received both the female team Highest GPA award and the Most Improved award, while the hockey team was the male Highest GPA award winner and the men's basketball team was the Most Improved.
