Falcon fans share some women's basketball memories
Throughout the 2010-11 season, the BGSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will be celebrating the storied history of venerable Anderson Arena, as we are 'Closing the Doors of the House That Roars' and preparing for the opening of the Stroh Center in the fall of 2011.

Several folks have sent in some of their favorite women's basketball memories. The Falcons have won the last six Mid-American Conference regular-season titles (and have captured four MAC Tournament crowns during that time). In the late 1980s and early '90s, however, the Brown and Orange hosted a total of three NCAA Tournament games at Anderson. Here are a few memories from those as well as other games at "The House That Roars" ...
---------------
JAN
My favorite memory was being in "The House That Roars" on March 15, 1989, when the #9-seeded BGSU women defeated the #8 seed University of Cincinnati by a score of 69-59 in the first round of the 1989 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament regional. What an amazing moment for the Falcons!
ANNETTE
During the 1992-93 season, the women hosted Florida in the NCAA Tournament. The place was rockin'! I don't think anybody sat down during the entire game, and you couldn't hear anything down on the floor. During the game, the atmosphere was the best I had ever experienced during 25 years of going to BGSU games. Though the women lost at the buzzer (at that moment, you could hear a pin drop), it was a phenomenal game.
BOB
Senior Kelly Kapferer sang the National Anthem before the Toledo game in 2005, then with only seconds left converted a three-point play for a 72-71 win over the Rockets on 'Senior Day.' This was one of my favorite moments, but I've also enjoyed many other women's basketball highlights, including the hanging of the banners in the arena, the Sweet 16 run, the NCAA and WNIT appearances, and of course, the six-straight MAC Championships!
