January 28, 2011 | Football, General
The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department has announced that Brandon Hourigan has been named the new Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Falcons. He replaces Aaron Hillmann, who accepted a position at the University of Michigan earlier this month.
Hourigan's responsibilities will include overseeing the strength and conditioning of all 18 sports at Bowling Green and he brings vast experience with multiple sports at Virginia, Richmond and Northeastern.
“I want to thank Greg Christopher and Lesley Irvine for the opportunity they have given me,” said Hourigan. “I am looking forward to working with the Falcon student-athletes and coaches at Bowling Green and helping each team reach its potential through the strength and conditioning initiatives we will put in place.”
Hourigan comes to BGSU after spending the past two seasons at the University of Virginia as the Head Strength and Conditioning coach. While at Virginia he was responsible for all program development for the football team.
Prior to his time at Virginia, Hourigan was the head strength and conditioning coach for football at Richmond from 2005-08, where he worked with current BGSU head football coach Dave Clawson for three seasons (2005-07). He oversaw all fitness duties for the Spiders, who won the 2008 NCAA Football Championship Subdivision title. Hourigan also worked with multiple other sports during his time at Richmond.
Prior to his appointment at Richmond, Hourigan was the assistant coordinator of speed, strength and conditioning at Northeastern University. He worked with the Huskies' football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's hockey, volleyball, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's track and field squads.
Hourigan has also worked as an assistant strength & conditioning coach on the collegiate level at Arizona (2001) and Clemson (1998-1999). He also served as a strength & conditioning intern for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL in 1999.
Hourigan graduated with a bachelor of science in physical education from Plymouth State College where he was a four-year letterwinner in football. At Clemson, he completed work toward a masters of sciences in guidance and counseling.
Hourigan is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the United States Weight Lifting Association, and has both First Aid and CPR certification.
Hourigan and his wife, Amy, have a son, Brandon, Jr., and a daughter, Ava.
