Falcons To Face Youngstown State For BracketBusters Series

Bowling Green, Ohio – ESPN has announced the match-ups for the 2011 BracketBusters series and the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will play at Youngstown State on Feb. 19. It marks the second time the two programs have been paired together for the event as the Falcons defeated the Penguins 76-64 on Feb. 21, 2004.
It is the second consecutive season in which Bowling Green will face a Horizon League opponent for the series as the Falcons beat Valparaiso 87-70 last year. In all, it is the sixth time in nine years that the Falcons have faced a Horizon League school for BracketBusters.
Youngstown State is currently 7-14 overall and just 1-10 in the Horizon League. The Penguins split four games against Mid-American Conference opponents during their non-conference slate, defeating Buffalo and Toledo but losing to Kent State and Akron. Bowling Green, on the other hand, has played two Horizon League opponents this year, losing road games to both Detroit and Milwaukee.
Bowling Green does hold an 8-2 edge in the all-time series, including an 81-59 win in the last meeting between the two programs, coming in a BracketBusters return game on Dec. 11, 2004. The two programs should be familiar with each other as they have played in closed-door scrimmages each of the past two years.
Contractually, the two programs will meet for a return game at Bowling Green in one of the next two years.
The Falcons have been fairly successful in BracketBusters history, posting a 5-3 record overall as well as 6-1 in return games. Bowling Green will play a return game at Valparaiso during the 2011-12 season.
