Alexis Rogers Named MAC Player of the Week

Redshirt soph earns her first career conference weekly honor
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Alexis Rogers has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Dec. 12). Rogers, a redshirt sophomore, earns the honor for the first time in her collegiate career.
Rogers, a native of West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West H.S), averaged 14.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as the Falcons went a perfect 3-0 in last week's games. She led the team in both scoring and rebounding on the week, as BGSU won by an average of over 25 points per game.
Rogers, in her first playing season at BGSU after transferring from Duke Univ., entered the week coming off a 14-point game against Butler (Dec. 3), which had tied her career high at the time.
On Tuesday (Dec. 6), however, Rogers had a monster game at Youngstown State, with career-best totals of 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 73-61 road win. The double-double was the first of her collegiate career. Rogers had 14 points in the first half of that game, equaling her previous career best by the intermission. She was 2-for-3 from three-point range vs. the Penguins.
Then, on Friday night (Dec. 9), Rogers scored 19 points, including 15 before halftime, in a 72-38 win over Austin Peay at the Stroh Center. After making nine of her 14 shots from the field at YSU, Rogers went 7-of-12 from the floor vs. APSU. She added three steals vs. the Lady Govs.
Sunday afternoon (Dec. 11), Rogers had nine rebounds in BG's 83-53 victory against Jacksonville. She played only a few minutes of the second half of that game, heading to the bench with the Falcons ahead by nearly 30 points.
On the week, Rogers shot a team-best 56.7 percent from the field, making 17 of her 30 field-goal tries. She is averaging 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this year, leading the Falcons in boards and ranking second in scoring.
Rogers earned this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division. Tavelyn James of Eastern Michigan was named the MAC P-O-W in the West.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 7-2 overall, are idle from competition this week for fall semester exams. BGSU will head to Omaha, Neb., this weekend, taking on Creighton University Sunday afternoon (Dec. 18).
