BGSU Athletics Announces First Event In Stroh Center
February 09, 2011 | General
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics has announced the first public event in the Stroh Center. GRAMMY Award nominated Christian group Sanctus Real and Dove Award winner Tenth Avenue North will headline a concert Aug. 13, 2011 in the University's new arena. Cedarville University student Hayden Browning will also perform.
“This is a great way to open the building to the public,” BGSU Athletics Director Greg Christopher said. “We are excited to welcome Sanctus Real and Tenth Avenue North to BGSU and to the Stroh Center. With their ties to our Northwest Ohio community and their popularity among several age groups, this is the right way to showcase our new building and our campus to a wide audience.”
Tickets will go on sale through the BGSU Ticket Office on Monday, March 28 and will cost $20. Youth and BGSU students can purchase tickets for $15 and groups of 10 or more can get special $12 tickets. Walk-up prices on the day of the concert will be $25. Tickets can be purchased on BGSUFalcons.com or by calling 877-BGSU TICKET.
Sanctus Real formed in Toledo in 1996 and features Matt Hammitt (lead vocals and guitar), Chris Rohman (lead guitar), Mark Graalman (drums), Dan Gartley (bass) and Pete Prevost (guitar). The group has garnered seven No. 1 radio singles and six more that have landed in the top 5. Their 2010 release, “Pieces Of A Real Heart” has been nominated for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
Tenth Avenue North earned New Artist of the Year accolades at the 2009 Dove Awards and received the 2010 Dove Awards Song of the Year for “By Your Side”. The group consists of Mike Donehey, Jeff Owen, Jason Jamison and Ruben Juarez and the band's debut album ranked No. 10 on Billboard Magazine's list of Top Christian Albums for 2009, placing two songs on the Hot Christian Songs list.
The Stroh Center will be the new home for Bowling Green State University men's and women's basketball and volleyball. The arena is named after Kerm and Mary Lu Stroh, who announced a $7.7 million donation on March 1, 2008. Groundbreaking took place Sept. 3, 2009 and the building is set to be completed during the summer of 2011. All three athletic programs will compete in the arena in the 2011-12 season.
