Kermit Stroh Named NAADD Donor Of The Year
March 07, 2011 | General
Cleveland, Ohio – The National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) has announced the recipients of its yearly awards and Kermit Stroh has been named the national Donor of the Year for the University Division. Stroh, along with his late wife Mary Lu, provided an $8 million gift to athletics, $7.7 million of which was designated as a lead gift for the construction of a new athletics arena – now named the Stroh Center – which amounts to the second-largest gift in University history and the most significant single gift given to support the construction.
“I'm speechless,” Stroh said. “I'm flattered and humbled by a University that has always treated me and my family so warmly. I accept this award on behalf of all the Falcon fans and wonderful people from Bowling Green. I want to thank (BGSU President) Carol Cartwright for allowing me to be a part of the University and to (BGSU Athletics Director) Greg Christopher and the great people on his staff who have been so wonderful to me.”
As a passionate advocate for Falcon athletics and academic programs for nearly 50 years, Stroh has been a faithful supporter of college athletics, giving generously to the Sebo Athletic Center, Doyt Perry Stadium enhancement project, Ice Arena renovations, and the Coaches' Fund for Excellence. He remains consistently involved in The President's Club and Falcon Club, annually maintaining his premium seating at BGSU events.
Stroh and his former company, Moulton Gas, have also invested in the Peregrine Society Scholarship, Aviation studies, WBGU-TV, and the Trustees Leadership Scholarship. The accomplished philanthropist also volunteered as co-chairman of the successful $146.5 million Building Dreams Campaign and served nine years on the University's Board of Trustees (two as chairman). BGSU recognized his service with the distinction of an honorary doctorate in 2002.
“NAADD's Donor of the Year Award is an amazing and deserving honor for Kerm,” BGSU Director of Athletics Greg Christopher said. “The award shows the entire country the type of impact Kerm has had at Bowling Green. While the NAADD honor is tied to athletics, Kerm stood out among the nominees because of how he touched so many areas of campus. From serving as a Trustee, to leading the way for our new arena, Kerm and his entire family have made BGSU a better place through their service and generosity.”
Award winners will be honored on Friday, June 17 at the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Luncheon, held in conjunction with the 46th annual National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla. NAADD is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities, enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics, and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics development and fundraising.
