Chauncey Orr Commits To Play For Father At BGSU
July 13, 2011 | Men's Basketball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green High School senior Chauncey Orr has signed scholarship papers to play college basketball for his father at Bowling Green State University beginning in the fall of 2011. He is the son of Louis and Yvette Orr.
Orr, whose father was an All-American at Syracuse and then played eight years in the NBA, was considered by most to be the top prep player in Northwest Ohio this year and has big upside in his game. He was named first team all-state and was earned accolades as the Toledo Blade Player of the Year, the Sentinel-Tribune First Team All-Wood County, and the District 7 Player of the Year for Ohio Division I. He was also the Northern Lakes League Player of the Year, Associated Press Northwest Ohio District Player of the Year, and the Player of the Year by the Maumee Mirror.
“I am pleased to have Chauncey officially join our basketball family,” the elder Orr said. “As his coach, he not only brings talent, skill and versatility to our program, but a strong work ethic and IQ for the game. He also has good size and strength for a perimeter player and has the ability to score from different areas on the court. Because of his work ethic, Chauncey will continue to develop and improve.”
Orr, at 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, averaged 20.6 points per game as a senior for Von Graffin's Bowling Green High School team, along with 6.9 rebounds, while shooting 57 percent from the floor, 42 percent from three-point range, and 82 percent from the free-throw line. That followed a junior season in which Orr averaged 19.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. His 1,385 career points broke the school record held by another former BGSU player – Josh Almanson.
Bowling Green High School went 17-4 this past year and swept through the Northern Lakes League with a perfect 14-0 mark. Orr had a season-high 32 points and scored at least 20 on 13 other occasions.
“Chauncey has worked hard to improve and develop every year, along with the Bowling Green High School boys basketball team,” Orr said. “They improved every season, which is a credit to coach Graffin and his staff, culminating with an undefeated and championship season in NLL play. This was a major goal for Chauncey and his fellow senior teammates going into their senior season, and a hard earned accomplishment. I am excited about the opportunity to coach Chauncey and share in his BGSU experience.”
