Conference office releases coaches poll
The Bowling Green State University tennis team has been picked to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference regular-season standings in 2012, according to the preseason coaches poll released by the league office.

The Falcons garnered 38 points in the poll, which is the result of voting by the league's head coaches. Akron was predicted to capture both the regular-season title and the MAC Tournament championship. The Zips received 70 points and six of the eight first-place votes cast.
Miami was picked to finish second, while Western Michigan was chosen to place third. Miami advanced to the championship match of the MAC Tournament last season, losing a 4-3 decision to Akron in the final. Both WMU and BGSU advanced to the semifinals.
Toledo was picked to place fourth in '12, followed by BGSU, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, Ball State and Northern Illinois.
Last season, the Falcons were picked to finish seventh, but Penny Dean's team went 5-3 in league regular-season play to wind up fourth in the standings. BGSU, as mentioned, advanced to the semifinals of the MAC Championships before losing to Miami.
