Black Swamp Sports And Haas Family Make Donation To BGSU Baseball Program
May 02, 2012 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio— BGSU baseball head coach Danny Schmitz has announced that Black Swamp Sports and former player Gary Haas have made a donation to the baseball program. The donation will provide a new set of pinstripe uniforms to the program.
Haas, as well as Treece and Kieffer, will be honored prior to the game on Saturday, May 12, at 1 pm vs. Toledo.
Black Swamp Sports, which is owned by Jon Treece and Jack Kieffer, has raised over $100,000 for amateur sports since the tournament was started 15 years ago.
“Jack and I are happy to help any worthwhile amateur baseball project in Northwest Ohio, and that is one of the reasons Black Swamp Sports was started,” Treece said.
Haas, a Falcon from 1971-74, was inducted into the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994. He said, “I had a great experience at BGSU both athletically and academically and I feel privileged to be able to give back to the BGSU Baseball program. I always felt like part of the family whenever I came back to the BGSU campus. My four years as a Falcon player were some of the best years of my life.”
“On behalf of BGSU baseball, our players, coaches and families we would like to thank Gary and Debbie Haas, Jon Treece and Jack Kieffer for their wonderful donation of our new pinstripe uniforms,” head coach Danny Schmitz said. “The love and support that they have for BGSU and our baseball program are second to none. They are, without a doubt, true Falcons. We are very proud of our baseball tradition here at BGSU.”
Haas was also a captain of the 1972 MAC champions and NCAA regional team.
“He helped build our wonderful tradition and without a doubt bleeds Brown and Orange,” continued Schmitz. “Jon Treece and Jack Kieffer have been very dear friends of our program, and like Gary and Debbie Haas, continue to show their commitment to BGSU baseball. Their support throughout the years has helped us establish BGSU baseball as one of the top programs in the Mid-American Conference. They will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you, Gary, Debbie, Jon and Jack. FALCONS FOREVER!”
