Story No. 9 From 2011-12: Hockey Beats No. 2 Michigan; Sets Attendance Record
June 19, 2012 | General, Ice Hockey
Throughout the summer, the Bowling Green Athletics Department will be counting down the top 10 stories of the 2011-12 school year, as voted on by members of the Athletics Department administration and the Athletics Communications Department. We will release the list one at a time throughout the summer, until the No. 1 moment of 2011-12 is revealed on Wednesday, Aug. 1 -- the day before BGSU football camp opens.
As the 2011-12 hockey season began to wind down, the Falcons built momentum that would eventually catapult the team to a trip to Joe Louis Arena for the CCHA Final Four. No regular season weekend, though, captured that momentum better than the team's final home weekend against No. 2 Michigan. In the opener, Bowling Green fought back from a 3-2 deficit to score twice in the final seven minutes (including the game-winner with just 84 seconds remaining) for a stunning 4-3 victory.
The next night, Senior Night, BGSU fans supported the team like never before, packing into the BGSU Ice Arena for a record crowd of 5,031 fans. While Michigan won that game 3-0, the energy from that weekend propelled the Falcons to a pair of shocking upsets in the CCHA Tournament.
