June 13, 2013 | Volleyball
Denver, Colo. – Bowling Green State University volleyball coach Danijela Tomic recently took part in the NCAA Women Coaches Academy, graduating from the program along with 43 other coaches. Tomic participated in five-day academy from May 29 to June 2 in Denver, Colo.
The NCAA Women Coaches Academy provides skills training for coaches at all levels to assist them in being more efficient, productive, resourceful and successful. The academy is designed for women coaches who are ready and willing to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success. The participants learn skills that are not sport specific, yet ones that are relevant and necessary for coaching responsibilities, beyond the X's and O's.
"The NCAA Women Coaches Academy was a life-changing experience that I will always remember and cherish," Tomic said. "Not only did I learn from the amazing WCA faculty, but I also met wonderful coaches from different sports from all over the country. The WCA confirmed my belief that coaching is one of the most noble professions and I feel honored and blessed to be a part of it. This experience also inspired me to pay it forward to the future generations of young women athletes and coaches whenever I can because so many before me have done the same for my generation and I would not be where I am without their help and support. I hope that every coach attends the WCA or another program organized by The Alliance for Women Coaches. I also encourage all women coaches to join www.GoCoaches.org because it will help them grow and develop professionally and personally."
The WCA is designed to give coaches the opportunity to understand their expanding role as a coach, along with perspectives and skills to help them make the most of their situation. In the company and understanding of other coaches, they have the opportunity to talk and listen with others to gain support and learn new tools and strategies. The three objectives of the WCA are skills development, retention and mentoring.
