June 20, 2013 | Football, General
For the fourth year in a row, BGSU Athletics will be counting down the top stories of the year all summer long. 2012-13 was a banner year for athletics at BGSU and the list of best moments of the year is arguably the strongest since beginning this annual event.
We will release the list one at a time throughout the summer until the No. 1 story of the year is announced on Aug. 5 -- just as BGSU football camp gets underway and the 2013-14 season has officially started! Don't forget to purchase your season tickets NOW!
BGSU Football Selected To Play In The Military Bowl
The Bowling Green football team opened 2012 by losing three of its first four contests before reeling off six consecutive victories to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2009. The Falcons started the run by ripping Rhode Island 48-8 on Homecoming and then defeated MAC schools Akron, Miami, UMass, Eastern Michigan and Ohio in succession to improve to 7-3. Despite a hard-fought loss to Kent State that determined the MAC East Division champion, the Falcons finished the regular season 8-4 and earned a trip to Washington, D.C. to face No. 24 San Jose State in the Military Bowl (FOR STORY CLICK HERE).
Bowling Green took a 13-10 lead early in the third quarter and John Pettigrew scored from one-yard out with 10:26 left in the game to put the Falcons ahead 20-19. San Jose State, though, scored twice late to come away with a 29-20 victory. For the Bowling Green football team, advancing to a bowl game marked a signature moment for the program after rebuilding from a two-win season in 2010. (FOR COMPLETE GAME RECAP, CLICK HERE)
