RELEASE & LIST OF ALL-REGION NOMINEES FROM WBCA OFFICE
Rogers earns the all-region nomination for the second time in three years. She also received the honor in 2012.
Rogers' selection in 2014 marks the seventh time in eight seasons that a BGSU player has earned the honor. Lauren Prochaska was one of the 52 finalists in three consecutive years (2009-11). Ali Mann was a regional finalist in 2007, while Kate Achter was recognized in '08.
The selection committee will review the 52 candidates and select the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team from that list.
Rogers, a native of West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West H.S.), leads the Falcons in scoring and ranks second in rebounding, with 14.3 points and 8.1 boards per contest. An All-Mid-American Conference First-Team selection, she currently ranks ninth in the league in both scoring and rebounding, and is one of just four players in the conference to be ranked among the top-10 in both categories.
Rogers is third in the conference in field-goal percentage, having hit 165-of-312 shots (52.9%) this year to date. Rogers ranks sixth in the MAC in free-throw pct. and ninth in steals She has reached double digits in the scoring column 24 times this season and 62 times in her BG career. Rogers has a team-leading eight games of 20 or more points this year to date.
In MAC games only, Rogers finished fifth in the league in scoring and sixth in rebounding, with 16.4 ppg and 8.6 rpg. She was third in the conference in FT pct. and fourth in FG pct. in league games, and tied for fourth in steals against MAC opponents. Her eight double-doubles this season to date include five in MAC matches.
Rogers, in her third playing season at BGSU after transferring from Duke University, has scored a total of 1,221 points as a Falcon, an average of 12.5 per game. She ranks 19th in BGSU history in scoring.
The WBCA selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. The percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
The 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 5, during NCAA women's Final Four Super Saturday festivities at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
The Falcons of head coach Jennifer Roos are 29-4 overall, and BGSU won the MAC's regular-season title with a 17-1 league mark. BG has won nine MAC division titles in the last 10 years, with eight outright conference regular-season crowns in that time.
BGSU is participating in national postseason play for the 10th consecutive season, a school- and MAC-record streak. The Falcons have posted wins over High Point and St. Bonaventure in the WNIT, and BG hosts Michigan in WNIT third-round action on Thursday night (March 27), with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
