Falcons Represent On Day Two Of NCAA Regionals
May 31, 2014 | Women's Track and Field
Jacksonville, Fla. – Bowling Green State University seniors Tina Perrine and Jeanette Pettigrew closed out their careers, while freshman Kori Reiser capped off an impact first-year at the NCAA East Regional Preliminary round Saturday at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Following a strong opening day of competition that included Brooke Pleger advancing to nationals for the second consecutive year, the Falcons battled through a weather delay and schedule changes on the second day of the meet.
After weather pushed back the start of the discus competition by two hours, Perrine and Reiser took center stage. Perrine opened the competition with her best throw of the day, tossing the discus 151-feet. Reiser, on the other hand, posted her biggest mark on her final throw of the day. She threw the discus 158-6 to finish 34th out of the 48 competitors on the day, up nine spots from her seed entering the day. Perrine closed out her career in 42nd place.
Running events were pushed back an hour as Pettigrew had to wait until late in the evening to compete in the first round of the 200. She closed out one of the most illustrious women's track and field careers in BGSU history, running the event in 24.00 seconds to place seventh in her heat and 37th overall after entering as the No. 46 seed.
Pettigrew's career ends as a three-time all-conference performer (once as first team and twice as second team). She won the MAC Championship in the 60 during the 2014 indoor season and in outdoor placed in the top three at the MAC Championships in either the 100 or the 200 four times. She is a school record-holder in multiple events, including the outdoor 200, 400 relay, 800 relay and 1600 sprint medley relay.
The NCAA Regional meet will conclude Saturday. BGSU will be featured one final time as freshman Makenzie Wheat takes part in the shot put competition at 4 pm.
