* The win was the 400th in program history. BGSU now has a record of 400-343-78 since the inception of the varsity program in 1965.
* The Falcons won the home opener for the fourth consecutive year, and BGSU has posted shutouts in all four of those wins. BG's last loss in the home-opening match came to nationally-ranked Akron in 2010.
* Overall, BGSU is undefeated in the regular-season opener during the Eric Nichols Era. Under Nichols, the Falcons are now 5-0-1 in the first game of the year, having outscored the opponents, 14-0, in those six matches.
* The BGSU starting lineup included all three of the team's seniors, along with three juniors and five sophomores (two redshirt sophomores and three true sophs). All three of the Falcons to see action off the bench in Friday's match were true freshmen.
* Six players made their respective BGSU debuts in Friday's match. Junior Jake Martin, redshirt sophomore Nick Landsberger and true sophomore Pat Flynn all saw action for BG for the first time. Ian Haskin, Prayag Jina and Brad Macomber, all freshmen, played against IUPUI as well.

YEAR | OPPONENT | RESULT |
2009 | Marshall | W 2-0 |
2010 | at Appalachian State | T 0-0 |
2011 | #9 Michigan | W 2-0 |
2012 | St. Bonaventure | W 3-0 |
2013 | Malone | W 5-0 |
2014 | IUPUI | W 2-0 |
* Flynn scored the first goal of the night, and his first goal as a Falcon, in the 27th minute of the match. He had five points, including two goals and an assist, last season at DePaul.
* Senior tri-captain Danny Baraldi scored the Falcons' second goal of the match. Baraldi now has 49 career points in 55 career matches, with 15 goals and 19 assists at BG.
* Baraldi has scored a goal in the season-opening match in each of the three years in which he has seen action. He found the back of the net in BG victories over Michigan (2011) and St. Bonaventure (2012) at Cochrane Field, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal in each case. Baraldi did not see action in last season's first match, a 5-0 win over Malone at Cochrane.
* Junior Ryan James and redshirt sophomore Max Auden each picked up an assist on Friday night. James now has five career assists and 15 total points at BGSU. He trails only Baraldi among active Falcons in career goals, assists and points.
* Auden's assist was the second of his career. He also had an assist in the season opener last season, the aforementioned win over Malone.
* Nick Landsberger made five saves to earn the shutout vs. IUPUI. The clean sheet was the first of his career, and came in his first collegiate match.
* BGSU now leads the all-time series with IUPUI by a 2-1-1 count, and the Falcons have a three-match unbeaten streak vs. the Jaguars. The last two meetings have been shutout wins for the Falcons, as the Brown and Orange scored late in the first half for a 1-0 win over the Jags three years ago (Sept. 30, 2011). In fact, BG has blanked IUPUI in each of the last three matches, including a scoreless draw in Indianapolis on Nov. 3, 2010.
* A familar face was on the opposing bench on Friday night. Former BGSU men's soccer student-athlete Garrett Bireline is in his first season as an assistant coach at IUPUI. BIreline, a native of Marion, Ind., was amed BGSU's Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2010, and earned his degree from the University in 2011.
* Nichols and IUPUI head coach Isang Jacob are former teammates, as they both played professionally with the Indiana Blast.
* Baraldi and James were recognized by the TopDrawerSoccer.com web site. The site ranked the top-20 players in each conference, listing Baraldi 18th and James 20th among Mid-American Conference men's soccer student-athletes.
* The Falcons' next match is Tuesday (Sept. 2) vs. Findlay. At halftime of that match, BGSU Director of Athletics Chris Kingston will step between the posts for the Chris Kingston PK Challenge. Numerous BG head coaches will attempt to score a goal against the AD.
* Kickoff for the Findlay match is set for 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised in the Toledo area by BCSN.
