Knapke, Tate Named MAC East Players Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the Players of the Week on Monday morning. Bowling Green State University quarterback James Knapke was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week, while placekicker Tyler Tate was named MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week.
Redshirt sophomore James Knapke (Fort Wayne, Ind.) went 46-for-73 for a career-high 395 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-42 win over Indiana. It was just his second career start. His 46 completions and 73 passing attempts were both single-game school records. The Falcons took down a Power Five conference school for the first time since 2008 (at Pitt). It was Bowling Green's first victory over a Big Ten Conference opponent since 2007 (at Minnesota), and the Falcons' first win at home over a Power Five conference school since 2002.
Junior kicker Tyler Tate (Carroll, Ohio) set a career high with four made field goals in a 45-42 win over Indiana. Tate made all four field goals in the first half on kicks from 28, 38, 45 and 47 yards. His 15 points responsible for were the second most in his career, and fourth-most all-time in school history for a single game. His four made field goals also set a new Doyt L. Perry Stadium record.
It was the first weekly award for Knapke, while Tate's award marks the second time in his career that he has been named MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week. The Falcons head to Madison later this week for a showdown on ESPN2 with Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET.
