Dalmacio Named Assistant Tennis Coach
January 21, 2015 | Women's Tennis
Bowling Green State University head tennis coach Olga Elkin has announced the hiring of Stephanie Dalmacio as assistant coach of the Falcons.
"I would like to thank Coach Elkin for giving me this opportunity to assist her in coaching such a great group of dedicated young athletes," said Dalmacio. "I am super excited to be part of the Falcon family!"
Dalmacio brings a variety of experiences as a player and a coach to the BGSU program. She spent the 2013-14 season as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Northern Iowa, helping the Panthers to a 12-12 overall mark.
"I could not be more thrilled to have Stephanie joining the Falcon family," said Elkin. "Steph and I were teammates, we worked well together then, and I expect us to start right where we left off years ago.
"Steph is hard-working, determined, and competitive. She played for a team ranked as high as 12th in the country, so she knows what it takes to get to that level and won't settle for less. Her degree in sports psychology along with her motivation and knowledge of the game will help us take BG Tennis to the next level."
Dalmacio served as a student assistant coach at Wichita State University, her alma mater, during the 2010-11 academic year, and also has been a tennis professional at various locales, including the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Center in Key Biscayne, Fla.; Manursing Island Club in Rye, N.Y.; Buckskill Tennis Club in East Hampton, N.Y.; Point O'Woods Tennis in Bay Shore, N.Y.; and KTC Quail Tennis Club in Dayton, Ohio.
A four-year letterwinner at Wichita State, she helped the Shockers to three Missouri Valley Conference championships, earning all-conference honors in singles in all four seasons (2007-10) and in doubles in three of those four years. Dalmacio won an MVC title at the number-one singles flight in 2009 after winning a conference championship at the top doubles flight the previous year. In 2010, Dalmacio teamed up with Delia Damaschin to qualify as individuals for the NCAAs, and that duo earned All-America honors.
WSU went 30-1 in MVC regular-season matches during her four years (2007-10) on the team. The Shockers won both the regular-season and tournament titles in 2007, '09 and '10. WSU advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of those three years, defeating South Carolina in the 2007 national tournament. The Shockers cracked the national rankings in each of Dalmacio's four years.
During her freshman year, Dalmacio (and her doubles partner, Anna Egorova) was ranked as high as ninth in the nation in doubles. Dalmacio and Damaschin were ranked 55th in the country in doubles at the conclusion of Dalmacio's senior season. In the classroom, Dalmacio earned MVC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week honors on multiple occasions.
A native of Brasilia, Brazil, Dalmacio was ranked among the top 10 players in Brazilian Juniors in 2004 and '05.She is a 2011 graduate of Wichita State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in sports management with a minor in exercise science. Dalmacio is currently in her second year of graduate school in sport psychology.
Elkin, Dalmacio and the Falcons begin the dual-match portion of the 2014-15 schedule with a pair of home matches this weekend. BGSU will face Detroit on Friday (Jan. 23) at 6:00 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, and the Brown and Orange will meet Youngstown State Sunday evening (Jan. 25), in a 5:00 p.m. start at the PTC.
