BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The 2015 Bowling Green State University football schedule was announced by the Mid-American Conference on Friday (Feb. 27) afternoon. The schedule, which is among the toughest in the MAC, features five home games and seven road games.
"The 2015 schedule will challenge our program as we look to defend our back-to-back MAC East titles," head coach Dino Babers stated. "The non-conference schedule is one of the toughest in the nation this year. We are looking forward to the challenging schedule and can't wait to see Falcon fans supporting us during the upcoming season."
The Falcons will be looking to become the first team from the MAC East Division since Marshall in 2000-02 to make the Marathon MAC Championship Game in three consecutive seasons when they take to the field in 2015. The Orange and Brown will also be looking to make a bowl game for the fourth straight season and win at least eight games for the fourth consecutive season in 2015.
The grueling non-conference schedule begins in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 5 when the Falcons take on the Tennessee Volunteers inside L.P. Field, which is home to the National Football League's Tennessee Titans. The Falcons and Vols have never met on the gridiron. The very next week will see the Falcons travel to Maryland of the Big Ten Conference, where they'll take on the Terrapins for the first time in program history. BGSU went 1-1 last season against foes from the Big Ten.
The five-game home slate will begin on Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Falcons welcome the Memphis Tigers to Doyt L. Perry Stadium. Last season, Memphis won 10 games and was crowned co-champions of the American Athletic Conference. The Tigers defeated BYU in the Miami Beach Bowl, capping off a turnaround season which saw them win seven more games than they had in 2013. Bowling Green is 1-0 against Memphis all-time, defeating them 52-35 in the 2004 GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
BGSU will hit the road the following week to conclude non-conference play when they travel to Purdue for a Sept. 26 showdown at Ross-Ade Stadium. The Falcons are 2-0 all-time against the Boilermakers, defeating them in both 1972 and 2003.
Mid-American Conference play will start the following week at Buffalo – the first of five games against foes from the East Division. The Falcons are 16-1 against East Division opponents since the beginning of the 2012. Bowling Green is undefeated against East Division teams in each of the past two seasons.
The game at Buffalo to kick off MAC play will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3. The Falcons are 9-3 in program history against the Bulls and defeated them last season 36-35.
The Orange and Brown, after playing four of their first five games on the road, returns to the friendly confines of The Doyt for back-to-back home games in the middle of October. BGSU hosts UMass on Saturday, Oct. 10 and Akron on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Bowling Green then prepares for the stretch run of the season with three of the final five games on the road, starting on Oct. 24 at Kent State. Bowling Green is 57-19-6 all-time against the Golden Flashes, defeating them 30-20 in 2014 to clinch the MAC East Division crown.
After a 10 day hiatus, midweek #MACtion begins with the Falcons hosting Ohio on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Bowling Green has defeated the Bobcats in three straight seasons, defeating them in Athens a season ago, 31-13.
With the East Division slate concluded, the Falcons will finish the regular season with three straight games against foes from the MAC's West Division. The Falcons will start that stretch by traveling to Waldo Stadium for a Nov. 11 matchup with Western Michigan in Kalamazoo.
Following the game against the Broncos, BGSU returns home to conclude their home slate with a huge showdown against arch-rival Toledo on Tuesday, Nov. 17. The Falcons and Rockets will meet for the 80th time in program history, with Bowling Green leading the all-time series against Toledo, 39-36-4.
The regular season concludes with a road game at Ball State. The Falcons and Cardinals will meet inside BSU's Sheumann Stadium on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The Thanksgiving week matchup will have the Falcons looking for revenge, after losing to the Cardinals in 2014.
The Mid-American Conference Championship Game inside of Detroit's Ford Field will take place on Friday, Dec. 4. The Falcons will be looking to return to that game for the third straight season in 2015.
