Brooke Pleger Named MAC Field Athlete Of The Week
April 07, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Bowling Green, Ohio – Redshirt senior Brooke Pleger opened the 2015 outdoor track and field season by throwing the hammer further than any collegian has this year. For her efforts in leading the BGSU Track & Field team to a 103-96 win over Toledo, she has earned the Mid-American Conference's Field Athlete of the Week honor. It is the eighth time in her career that she has earned the award (seven time during outdoor season and once in indoor).
Pleger threw the hammer 222-feet-4, less than a foot shy of her own school record and the second-furthest throw in BGSU history. More impressively, any of Pleger's four best throws at the meet (out of six attempts) would have put her at the top of the national leaderboard. In fact, her worst throw of the evening would rank third nationally this year.
Two years ago, Pleger earned NCAA Division I First Team All-American status after placing seventh at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. She followed that up by finishing third at the national championships in 2014 and again earning first team All-American honors.
Pleger and the BGSU Track & Field team will compete at the Tennessee Relays beginning Thursday. She is scheduled to take part in the hammer throw Thursday at 4 pm.
