BGSU Athletics To Take Part In ESPN3 University Production Initiative Beginning With 2015-16 Season
June 22, 2015 | General
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Athletics and ESPN have announced today that the University will be part of the ESPN3 university production initiative. The initiative is part of the Mid-American Conference's 13-year agreement with ESPN, and will allow for a minimum of 35 sporting events to air exclusively on ESPN3.
Bowling Green Athletics will partner with WBGU-TV to produce the events. WBGU-TV has long served the demands of the department through video production for various video boards in athletics facilities, but the relationship will be deepened with this new partnership.
"BGSU Athletics could not be more excited about our upcoming collaboration with ESPN, the MAC and WBGU-TV," BGSU Director of Athletics Chris Kingston said. "This is the sort of coordinated effort that makes college athletics special, and allows us to engage current and future BGSU students in a way that directly supports the University's mission and strategic plan. This will not only provide exceptional coverage for our student-athletes and athletic families, but also serve as a recruiting tool and training ground for the next generation of leaders from BGSU's School of Media and Communication. This agreement has tremendous potential and we are thrilled to get underway."
In the inaugural year, BGSU will produce at least 35 events in men's and women's basketball and volleyball. Events selected will include home events that are not selected by ESPN for national or regional distribution. Continue to check BGSUFalcons.com for more details as the season approaches.
"We are so pleased to be working with BGSU Athletics on this ESPN3 project," Tony Short, General Manager of Production, Engineering and Educational Services at WBGU-TV, said. "The WBGU-TV student employees will receive excellent professional experience crewing these athletic events."
BGSU students will receive valuable hands-on experience working with professional equipment and producing ESPN content. It will be a unique opportunity for students to gain working knowledge and real-time experience. All events will be carried on ESPN3.
